The Big Blackfoot River is in danger of being loved to death. Ever-increasing numbers of recreational floaters on its lower sections creates problems including litter, sanitary impacts, bank erosion, and anti-social behavior. Recreation management is the official responsibility of Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks. However, the effort to effectively deal with these issues simply exceeds the agency's budgetary ability to address them all. As a result, FWP depends on partners like BBRK to fill in the inevitable gaps.
Only constant vigilance can protect this river from damage from industrial and commercial activity. We keep abreast of any potential plans that might impact our watershed, and work with industry and other environmental groups in the region to insure any potentially damaging projects (logging, farming, ranching, mining) are done is an environmentally safe and sustainable fashion.
